Even in property management you will need to have a real estate sales license. This is where you start! Call your local real estate licensing company, it typically requires a 90 hour course and pass the test. Then you can easily get a job or start your own business!

Are you excellent at getting yelled at for equipment which are not your fault? Do you have a lot of common sense, above the ordinary? The best way to start in property management is to work in it and pay your dues. There are courses to become certified. Not sure how much money that would be. Salary is comparable to the same job in other fields. (I’m in property management) You do not necessarily need a r.e. license.

Not each disorder requires you to be a licensed real estate salesperson. In IL for example you only need 15 hours of education and to pass a certification test. I believe there are some states with no licensing requirements.

You should have excellent project management and people skills. The mean salary is around $35,000 according to careerbuilder.com

Most states do require that you be licensed in real estate, even if they don’t the licensing is a excellent thing to do just for the education.

You certainly should get education in the field. Depending on what type of management you intend to get involved in there are several educational institutions that place forward certifications.

I will provide links below but they are as follows.

NARPM The National Association of Residential Property Managers is probably the best org. out there for residential property management.

IREM The Institute of Real Estate Management is and brilliant source for apartment, and commercial property management education. IREM is an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors (NAR)

NAA The National Apartment Association is an brilliant source for an education in apartment management.
